Neary to compete in 2021 GT Cup
Team Abba Racing has announced that Sam Neary will join with Jason Garrett to compete for the GTH title in the 2021 GT Cup in the team’s newly acquired AMG GT4 Mercedes.
For 18-year-old Sam Neary’s first pro contract of his racing career, he teams up with Jason Garrett who despite being new to GT racing has already shown how quick he can be in a GT Car during testing late in 2020.
Commenting upon the partnership, Sam Neary said: “This is an exciting time for us all and we can’t wait for the season to get started. There is a steep learning curve for Jason to tackle having never driven on slicks or even used TC and ABS but he has shown that he is really quick already. With more coaching we hope to become a formidable line up in the championship.”
Jason Garrett commenting in the 2021 season and challenges ahead said: “I am super excited to get out there with Sam and be a part of his amazing professional journey in motorsport. I know I am in safe hands and really believe with Sam and Richard Neary running the show they will help me develop as a driver”.
It will be a busy season this year for the family-run Team Abba Racing. Earlier this year, Sam and Richard Neary announced they will be back competing with Team Abba Racing in the Intelligent Money British GT Championship which starts in May.
Richard Neary will be joined by Sam once again in British GT in the AMG GT3 Mercedes. Last year Sam proved a revelation during his maiden British GT campaign and his ability in wet and changeable conditions was comparable with far more experienced factory drivers, while his pace in the dry also took a notable step forward as the season progressed.
The first rounds of the GT Cup Championship take place 10th/11th April at Donington Park.
Sam Neary was the iZone Motorsport UK AASE Young Driver of the Year 2019. In 2019 Sam, who only started racing at the age 16, competed in Team Abba Racing’s BMW M3 GTR in the Britcar Dunlop Endurance Championship and the Creventic 24-hour series. SMXL
By June 2019 he was testing the Mercedes AMG GT3. He competed successfully in the Mercedes in the Britcar Dunlop Endurance Championship and GT Cup (taking several pole positions, several firsts and Sunoco Driver of the Day twice).
